How to Monetize YouTube Channel

How to Monetize YouTube Channel

On January 16, 2018, YouTube announced new eligibility requirements for the YouTube Partner Program(YPP).  Once a channel reaches 4,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months(1 year) and 1,000 subscribers it will be reviewed to join the YPP program for Monetization.
The changes are done to address the issues that affected the community in 2017 so that it can be ensured that the original creators around the world who make their living through YouTube Channel can be prevented. This change is going to be tough for smaller channels to reach YouTube Monetization.  As per YouTube, “the change is going to strengthen the requirements for YouTube Monetization by preventing it from spammers, impersonators, and other actors that can hurt the creator ecosystem.”

Previously the bar for making money through YouTube Ad needed 10,000 total views to join the YouTube Partner Program. It’s been clear over a few months that there must have a high standard.

What is YouTube monetization?

Monetisation literally means ‘to earn money’. YouTube monetisation is the process of earning money from your uploaded YouTube videos by enabling ads on them.

When your channel becomes popular and gets regular unique traffic, it becomes profitable for businesses and they are willing to pay to advertise on your videos.

Businesses pay YouTube for advertising and YouTube in turn shares a part of that revenue with the video owner. This is how monetisation works.

In order to be eligible for monetisation of your channel, you must prove that your position and authority in YouTube is significant. How? By achieving the monetization program ( Youtube Partner Program) milestones. As from January 2018, these are:

1. 1000 subscribers

2. 4000 hours of watchtime

YouTube displays relevant ads on video content created by content creators. There are different formats from banners to skippable and non skippable ads.

Sites like Amazon provide affiliate marketing opportunities so content creators add links to these sites and also earn income from sales from these relevant products.

This is what monetization is all about.
